"Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one's being, from bodily health to self realisation. Yoga means union - the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day to day life and endows skill in the performance of one's actions". BKS Iyengar
Hatha Yoga is an ancient system that combines the practice of physical postures designed to stretch, strengthen and relax the muscles of the body, keeping the joints spacious and supple, with breathing techniques which create a link between mind and body. The result is peace and comfort in our physical and mental selves. Traditionally Asana (physical postures) and Pranayama (breathing techniques) were used to prepare the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation.
Yoga allows us to stretch and strengthen our bodies, easing stiff joints and tight muscles. It gives us a space to learn to relax and breathe properly, thereby both calming and energising mind and body. Regular Yoga practice can create new habits of posture, breathing and mind which filter into our lives off the mat, dramatically improving our quality of living.
THE TRUE PURPOSE OF YOGA
