Hatha Yoga Class (1 hour)
This class includes strengthening, deep stretching and increasing the heart rate through holding postures as well as moving through flows. Yoga Nidra is a deep relaxation practice that guides the student to a state between wakefulness and sleep. There is no movement in this class. It is important to find a warm, comfortable space with plenty of cushions, props and blankets to ensure that the position can be maintained throughout the practice. Deep Relaxation Class (Yogic Breathing, Meditation and Yoga Nidra) (56 mins)
This class combines deep relaxation with Yogic Breathing Techniques (the Yogic Three Part Breath and Alternate Nostril Breathing - Nadi Shadana), with a brief meditation practice (using Mantra) and Yoga Nidra (described above). The class is mat / floor based with supported seated postures for the breathwork and meditation. There is no movement in this class. It is important to find a warm, comfortable space with plenty of cushions, props and blankets to ensure that you remain supported and comfortable for the duration of the class.
Structure of the class in order (approx timings):
10 mins - Svasana /Relaxation - supine
15 mins - Yogic breathing techniques - supine or seated
10 mins - Meditation - seated
20 mins - Yoga Nidra - supine
Hand mudras for the Yogic Breathwork:
We will be using the following hand mudras:
- Chin Mudra - connect thumb and pointing finger and extend other three fingers. This is demonstrated in the top picture.
- Vishnu Mudra - pointing and middle finger are folded in. The thumb is used to close the right nostril, and the ring finger to close the left nostril. This is demonstrated in the lower picture.
It may be helpful to take a moment to familiarise yourself with these mudras before commencing the class.
